CT of venous angiomas of the brain.

چکیده
Venous angiomas are very uncommon vascular malformations of the brain, which traditionally are described as having no arterial component [1]. Recently , however, both their rarity [2] and their lack of enlarged arterial feeders [3] have been questioned. The angiographic appearance of venous angiomas has been well described and usually is quite specific [4-8]. Computed tomography (CT), on the other hand, has been cons idered nonspeci fic for venous angiomas, necessitating angiography to confirm the diagnosis [6-9]. Two cases of venous angioma of the brain are presented to demonstrate that the diagnosis can be established with a high degree of certainty by CT alone in some instances. High-quality CT scanning during the first passage of an intravenous bolus of contrast material is capable of imaging the converging medullary veins which , in many venous angiomas, are considerably larger than normal medullary veins.

Simultaneous occurrence of developmental venous anomalies and cavernous angiomas.
PURPOSE To study the clinical and radiologic findings in 15 patients presenting with both developmental venous anomalies and cavernous angiomas and to determine which lesions caused the acute clinical symptoms. METHODS Lesions were infratentorial in 7 patients and supratentorial in 7 other patients. In one patient the developmental venous anomaly was infratentorial and the cavernous angioma s...

PURPOSE To describe 11 cases of posterior fossa venous angiomas with drainage through the brain stem. METHODS Eleven cases of posterior fossa venous angioma with drainage through the brain stem were evaluated using MR. Correlation with known routes of venous drainage for the cerebellum and brain stem is made. RESULTS Six of the 11 venous angiomas were found in the cerebellum, four in the br...
متن کاملMRI diagnosis of brainstem cavernous angiomas presenting as tumours.
We report experience with 11 patients misdiagnosed for years, on the basis of computed tomography (CT) and angiography, as harbouring brainstem tumours in whom magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) demonstrated cavernous angiomas. Seven had undergone external irradiation, 2 had a ventriculo-peritoneal shunt, 2 developed aseptic femur necrosis following corticosteroid treatment, 1 had undergone a bio...
متن کاملEffectiveness of contrast regimens in CT detection of vascular malformations of the brain.
Forty-three patients with cerebral vascular malformation were studied with precontrast, immediate contrast, and 1 hr delayed high dose contrast computed tomography (CT) scans. The precontrast scans were abnormal in 81% of patients. The delayed high dose scans demonstrated one angiographically occult, thrombosed arteriovenous malformation not seen on pre- or immediate contrast scans, four cases ...
